MANUFUTURE 2009 Conference

Carried out in association with the Swedish EU Presidency 2009, the MANUFUTURE 2009 Conference aimed to promote the implementation of a sustainable European manufacturing industry. Among the speakers were present Heinrich Flegel, Chairmain of Manufuture-EU, Leif Östling, President and CEO of Scania, and Tom Johnstone, President and CEO of SKF.

The Conference included plenary sessions, workshops and industry visits, where sustainability was seen from economic, ecological and social perspectives. The Conference focused on new business models, competitive technologies, more eco-efficient products, as well as new paths in education and in cooperation between Small and Medium Enterprises (SME). Here, the European industrialists had the opportunity to present their companies’ best practices.

The theme “Factories of the Future” was also an important part of the agenda and having been presented by Herbert von Bose, Director of DG Research – Industrial Technologies, European Commission.
